Prom Night

Woody and I decided to attend the LHS Prom in downtown Atlanta at the Four Seasons Hotel. Our first big mistake was getting on the interstate and getting off on 17th street. We ended up in the worst traffic we have encountered since moving to Atlanta in 1994. What should have been a 30 minute drive took an hour and a half. By the time we made it to the hotel we were both stressed out and ready to go home.

Thankfully, the prom was really nice and the hospitality room had good food. Woody and I ate, had dessert, wandered around the local, had our picture taken and then went to the hotel bar for an adult beverage. I would say we were there for an hour, tops.

The best outfit I saw goes to the kid that wore the kilt. He looked fabulous and I even heard several other students tell him he had on the best outfit of the evening. I say what guts! Prom music is not what it used to be. I just want to know how can you have a prom and not play Earth, Wind and Fire?

So here it is a little after 11 o'clock and I'm ready for bed. If I was prom age I would still be downtown.

50 anyone?

First Dive in the Pool

Finally a beautiful spring day in Atlanta. It seems like it's rained every weekend for the longest time. Woody got the Solar Panels up and running a couple of weeks ago so today he was able to take the first dive. Now, granted the water was a brisk 68 degrees, but being a tough German he was able to withstand the shock and swam around for a short time. Now I guess it's up to me to take the plunge. I refuse to get in until it's at least 70.Here are my happy birds finally outside enjoying the great outdoors!

Girls Night Out

Tonight I met up with a few girl friends to celebrate the adoption of Lisa Cox new little girl Patsy.
Lisa, Marta, Julia, Michelle, Cathy and I went to WaHoo in Decatur for a light dinner and some wine. We had a wonderful time telling new and old stories about when we were all on the same tennis team. Lisa's little girl, Patsy was just adorable and so well behaved for a 6 month old. It seems that WaHoo's is a popular place as it felt like every few minutes some one else that we new would appear. It was just another great evening with great friends.

Finding Old Friends

Today was a special day as an old friend found me on the Internet. I just love facebook. Sue and I were friends towards the end of my time in New Jersey. She ended up hooking up with an old boyfriend and I moved to Lousisana. Time went by and we didn't keep in touch. I can't wait to get the scoop on how the years have passed.

It's a sad state of affairs!

Today I had to shame my husband into becoming a follower of my blog. Hell, he hadn't even bookmarked it! Here I am trying to create an online diary of things that happen in our lives so that when we are old and senile we can look back over all the great (ha,ha) fun we've had.

Tax Day 2009: A Tea Party

With nothing else to do this afternoon I decided to head downtown to the Tea Party/Fair Tax Rally at the Gold Dome. Sean Hanity was broadcasting at 9:00 pm and the crowd started forming early in the day. I grabbed a bunch of quarters and took MARTA to the Five Points Station in Atlanta. It was pretty crowded when I got there and it was almost impossible to move towards the podium. I decided to move towards to back side of the rally and found a good spot to people watch before the real show started.

People were coming from all over and everyone was really nice. I was neverous going by myself. It was fun to see that capitalism was alive and well downtown with Papa John's Pizza guys selling pies out of the warming case. Also on sale were protest paraphernalia like the "Don't Tread on Me" flag. There were lots of signs and people dressed in red.
Since I can never totally commit, I chose to wear pink and blue. I brought a folding chair which was smart as I found a nice place to park myself. I had the other important supplies for a rally, a radio, my iPhone and a camera. Missing were tea bags, posters and any distinguishing items that might mark me as a conservative.

As this day comes to an end, I lament the fact that once again Woody and I owed money. This past year we even paid quarterly and still owed $300 more. I've just about had it with taxes. If I was floating in money it might not be so bad, but for every dollar that the government gets from me is one less shopping trip, which buys the items that employs the workers that make and sell the goods that I enjoy. Too bad because there's your stimulus!

A Windy Afternoon

Yesterday morning started off as a rainy day, a little on the blustery side, then, the next thing I know the winds start howling and the lights go off. 30 hours later the lights are still off at LHS where I work and they only returned to the house on Oxbow after 10:00 this morning. I was forced to go to La Fitness to get ready for work. I guess the shock of seeing me there sent the poor desk manager home early!

We were fortunate not to have too much damage and no trees on the house considering how many trees we have.

Here is the backyard shed which took the brunt of our damage. I guess Woody will have another honey on his "honey do" list!

I feel bad for the people that own this house in my neighborhood. It's been for sale for around two years with no takers. I don't think people will be lining up now!

To save myself from sheer boredom, I had to go to Ikea to exchange some items I bought the week before. I then spent the rest of the evening reading by candle light and watching the 8 inch analog tv that will no longer work once we go digital!

Easter Sunday on Stone Mountain

Today on this last Sunday before I go back to work, Kathleen and I met to climb Stone Mountain. The trail is about a mile up (I think) so it's not the far of a walk. The weather is beautiful for once and I am happy to report that I was able to complete this task! I am so out of shape and 50 is approaching. I guess it's now or never.

I'm just so glad they installed a handrail as I do not believe I would have been able to make it to the top without it.

Kathleen had a heart monitor on and her heart rate went up to 146. I'd like to think mine was not far behind.

Spring Break Comes to an End.

My week off is almost over. Mama has been keeping me company, which has been very nice. Today I finally got in gear and walked Penny and Cindy for 4 miles around Stone Mountain. It's easy to know how far you've walked as there is a marker every 1/2 mile.

Mama and I decided to take our annual photo in front of the azalea bushes that are in full bloom in the backyard.

Spring Break 2009

I'm starting to think that the first full week of April is not the best time for spring break unless you go to a place like Mexico or the Caribbean. Once again the weather has been up and down. It snowed briefly on Tuesday and today it's supposed to be in the 70's. Mama is visiting and yesterday we met up with Cecilia at the Cheese Cake Factory for lunch. Actually I was returning to the scene of the crime since the last time I ate at this restaurant my credit card was stolen. This time I paid with cash!

Finally, Anne-Grete from Norway sent me pictures of her house and all the snow they have had this past winter. I hope she won't be mad but I just had to share!
