Tax Day 2009: A Tea Party

With nothing else to do this afternoon I decided to head downtown to the Tea Party/Fair Tax Rally at the Gold Dome. Sean Hanity was broadcasting at 9:00 pm and the crowd started forming early in the day. I grabbed a bunch of quarters and took MARTA to the Five Points Station in Atlanta. It was pretty crowded when I got there and it was almost impossible to move towards the podium. I decided to move towards to back side of the rally and found a good spot to people watch before the real show started.

People were coming from all over and everyone was really nice. I was neverous going by myself. It was fun to see that capitalism was alive and well downtown with Papa John's Pizza guys selling pies out of the warming case. Also on sale were protest paraphernalia like the "Don't Tread on Me" flag. There were lots of signs and people dressed in red.
Since I can never totally commit, I chose to wear pink and blue. I brought a folding chair which was smart as I found a nice place to park myself. I had the other important supplies for a rally, a radio, my iPhone and a camera. Missing were tea bags, posters and any distinguishing items that might mark me as a conservative.

As this day comes to an end, I lament the fact that once again Woody and I owed money. This past year we even paid quarterly and still owed $300 more. I've just about had it with taxes. If I was floating in money it might not be so bad, but for every dollar that the government gets from me is one less shopping trip, which buys the items that employs the workers that make and sell the goods that I enjoy. Too bad because there's your stimulus!
